UW Robinson Center for Young Scholars

The Robinson Center for Young Scholars seeks temporary, hourly teaching aides to support summer program instructors in their daily classroom activities. The teaching aides will assist the instructors with various aspects of the instructional activities and with student supervision. They will report to the Enrichment Program Manager and be directly supervised by the instructors.

The Robinson Center has two summer programs that offer highly capable students a fast-paced and challenging immersive learning experience in various subjects.  Summer Stretch is a 4-week summer program for students in 7th-10th grades. Stretch will run from July 1st to 25th, Monday through Thursday (no class on Thursday, July 4th).  Summer Challenge is a 3-week program for students in 5th and 6th grade and will run from July 8th to 26th, Monday through Friday. Each program consists of 15 class sessions that run daily from 9 am - 2:20 pm. The teaching aides must be prepared to be onsite from 8:30 am - 3 pm.

The Teaching Aide is required to attend a paid on-campus orientation on June 27, 2024, from 9 am to 3 pm

Duties may include but are not limited to assisting the teacher with the following (100%):

  • Facilitating small group conversations with students;
  • Participating in classroom activities, evaluations and attendance taking;
  • Documenting student work;
  • Chaperoning students during field trips ;
  • Contributing to student assessments and progress reports;
  • Performing experiments or classroom demonstrations;
  • Taking attendance promptly at the beginning of the day, monitoring student safety, and ensuring proper departure/pick-up protocols are followed;
  • Providing notes to instructor(s) about student needs throughout the program;
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • No minimum degree requirement is needed;
  • Background in subject area;
  • Ability to attend all class sessions and trainings/orientations;
  • Applicants must be at least 16 years of age at the start of the position (June 24, 2024);
  • A satisfactory outcome from a criminal background verification will be required prior to hire.

Desired:

  • Experience working with youth in an educational setting.

Hourly Pay:

  • $19.97 per hour
