Bart Kelly is a Pacific Northwest native who returned home in 2022 after more than 20 years teaching and living internationally in Poland, Montenegro, Serbia, and China. Those experiences have shaped his passion for creating dynamic learning environments that blend curiosity, challenge, and a global perspective. Bart aims to make math both exciting and intellectually demanding. He designs experiences that push students into high-level thinking—analyzing patterns, making conjectures, justifying their reasoning, and tackling complex problems that don’t have obvious solutions. Through inquiry-driven, hands-on learning, students are encouraged to take risks, think deeply, and engage with mathematics in a meaningful way. Bart holds a bachelor’s degree from Central Washington University and master’s degrees in International Education (Framingham State) and Multicultural Education (George Mason). His teaching is grounded in research-based practices, with a strong focus on conceptual understanding, rigor, and developing confident, independent problem solvers. Bart believes every student can succeed in mathematics at a high level. Mistakes are not just part of the process—they are essential to it. Growth comes from grappling with challenging ideas, refining thinking, and persisting through difficulty. Outside the classroom, Bart is a lifelong learner—currently studying violin and exploring languages including Serbian and Mandarin. He brings that same spirit of challenge and discovery to the University of Washington, where students will think hard, collaborate, and experience the joy of truly understanding mathematics.
