This course offers a comprehensive exploration of the core principles of the first year of High School Algebra. While focusing primarily on linear equations, students will also explore quadratic and exponential equations. Additionally, there will be some basic one and two variable statistical analysis.
Course Description
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course, students will know/be able to:
- Know the three basic equation types of High School Algebra and in their most common forms.
- Use algebraic equations can be used to solve real-world problems.
- Make and evaluate statistical claims.
- Identify and represent functions in multiple representations, explaining the relation between independent and dependent variables.
- Use multiple problem-solving approaches, explaining why a particular approach was selected.
Other Information
- Students will be required to bring a laptop or similar device. The Robinson Center can provide a device if your student does not have access.
- This course required quite a bit (approximately 1 hour per night) of homework to be completed outside of the program day.
Who Should Apply
- Students currently in 6th, 7th, or 8th grade
- This course requires prior knowledge in use of variables in mathematics, and computational skills with rational numbers, as seen in Grade 8 Common Core Mathematics Standards.
